About me
I'm a 21-year-old senior journalism student at the University of Tennessee at Martin in the U.S. South. I'm also studying business administration and French. I am an ambitious, enthusiastic news consumer and producer.
I work as managing editor for the university's award-winning campus newspaper, where I am responsible for the spot and enterprise news reports. I also write, edit and design. I'm also a supplemental instructor of French language at the Student Success Center.
I was born in Knoxville, Tenn., the state's third-largest city, and raised near Jackson, Tenn., in a town named Milan (pronounced MY-lan). I began working for the town's weekly newspaper shortly before I graduated ranked first in my class. I kicked off my journalism career writing sports, features, special events and local government. I also took photos and designed advertising creative.
I've been involved in several college clubs, including being president of the college's Society of Professional Journalists chapter and treasurer of la Socit franaise, the French language, culture and literary club.
I've completed competitive interships at The City Paper, a daily newspaper in Nashville, Tenn., and The Associated Press, the largest news agency in the world. I've also done non-journalism work with an arthritis clinic.
Writing and reporting news interests me immensely, and I understand the importance of reliable, quick, informed news reporting done across multiple media. I enjoy telling stories.
After I graduate, I hope to enter graduate school for either law or business and journalism or start work. Feel free to contact me with any offers or tips!
More about:
Outside of work, I enjoy performing and listening to music, skiing, drinking coffee and wine over provocative conversation, playing with technology, traveling, talking about (and trying to make) food and watching movies, musicals and plays. I love ethnic food.
I studied classical and theatrical voice for four years, and I'm a tenor/tenor-baritone. I have experience singing solo in weddings, musicals and other public events and also in ensembles.
I also support economically depressed Martin, Tenn.'s newest business venture and only cool place to hang out, BDx Coffee Shop.
